i e-mailed Sfp back and told her to count me in on the great cookie posting project – but –

she must not have gotten the e-mail, because on ‘Nilla’s post this morning, and Mick and Molly’s, i’m not on the list of bloggers doing cookies – which –

is actually probably a good thing, because i’m in Savannah, Ga and i don’t do a quadzillion cookies for Xmas, but had planned to do them Sunday before i left town – but –

we got snow and decided to leave early – so i didn’t have time to bake anyhow.  But not wanting to feel totally left out, i will share a cheating recipe for cookies that i used to make with my kids.  You can do these from scratch, i’m sure, but they are a non-baking-mama way to look good real easily.

You need:

– a large package of Pillsbury slice and bake cookies (or your favorite sugar cookie recipe) and

– hard candy – lifesavers, or similar candies – in different colors.

Then, simply:

Crush the candy between pieces of wax paper, keeping the colors separate.  you can use a meat mallet for this, or the handle end of knife works (simply wrap a hand towel around the sharp end of the knife and pound with the other end.)

If you’re using the Pillsbury cookies (DO NOT use a generic brand), simply slice the cookies as you normally would.  Place the circle of dough on a piece of aluminum foil that you will use to line your cookie pan.  (i use aluminum foil for this because it’s easier for clean up.)

Then take a cookie cutter that is slightly smaller than the circle of cookie dough and cut out a cookie shape on the inside of the circle.   This can be any shape.  Remove the cut-out shape.  (If you’re real handy, you can actually bake a batch of these separately.)

Sprinkle the crushed candy on the inside of the cookie circle.  When you’ve prepared a batch, bake as directed on the package for the cookies.

The simplest version of the finished cookies will look like this:

Only mine were never quite that perfectly even...

A fancier version might look like this:

But these are probably beyond my expertise...

Hope you’re enjoying the holidays…

LOL – are you talking ’bout my cookies???

It’s ok – I’m not on the list anyhow, so it doesn’t count!

Ok, I realized belatedly that you were probably talking about having left me off the list…

Please don’t talk so bad about yourself! Unless you purposely plotted to leave me off the list for some nefarious reason… otherwise, not a big deal, ok?

      hugs,

hey aisha, i will add you to my list…i got an email to update and i don’t know if you were on there or not, honestly as i was up and out early and only now at almost 10 doing email.

i am convinced mammogram techs are sadists.

i’m betting those “window cookies” are NOT beyond your expertise…i tried them once when i was teen and never did it again…maybe i’ll try them next year.

I don’t think I was, cause I’m not on Mick’s list either. No problem – I’m pretty sure my recipe doesn’t count anyhow!! I mean, really – start with Pillsbury slice and bake???? lol

I can do the circle cookies, but I can’t do fancy shapes… And yes, I think you’re right about mammogram techs – but then shouldn’t it be fun???

good point. it was NOT fun…but tis done.

why can’t you do fancy shapes? They make mini cookie cutters that yanno…you can roll out the entire dough, cut out the rounds, then cut the mini cookie shapes out (then bake and frost the mini’s) and fill the “holes” with the candies….easy peasy. Michaels crafts stores sells them as does Walmart.

i must have a zillion mini cutters for every holiday…sugar cookies are good “staples” in my house.

yeah. i’m still not Martha Stewart…but it rubs off from my wife, what can i say.?

Ok, Ms. Earth Mama – I can do shapes – and thenI have to get the inner shape out of the outer shape, right? That’s where my best laid plans fall apart. Literally. Then I have a lumpy outer shape and a lumpier inner shape – Xmas tree’s without trunks, or missing a branch, stockings mangled, sleds withoutrunnersand so on. Then I get frustrated and go back to circles.

I actually have lots of cookie cutters too! But I only use them for the basic shape. Nothing fancy.

When you come visit me maybe you can show me how to do the fancy shapes… or I’ll bring my cookie cutters to the kinky blogger’s convention!

        hugs,

Hi Aisha, I answered late so got left off some of the lists too. But I put you on my list, and I will likely try your cookies. So I say they count. My kids will love them. I might try the fancy shapes inside… or rather, let the kids try, that way it doesn’t matter if they are lumpy and bumpy, it’s kid art, right?
