A Journey

1 Aug

Tomorrow morning, i’ll take my daughter and her partner and my granddaughter to the airport.  I’ll watch them walk through security, on their way out of the country.

Today, i’ll help them finish packing all their worldly goods into six or seven suitcases.  Or maybe i can hold the baby and watch them do the work.

Tonight, the house will be full of their friends.  Children under foot, people laughing, sharing food, and telling stories.  There will be tears mixed with the laughter.

Tomorrow night, the house will be quiet, and my heart heavy.  i will remind myself that this is a great adventure for them.  Remind myself that this is her journey in life, and i don’t get to pick her path for her.

Her choices touch me of course, and call me to be a mother, grandmother, woman, and person in new ways.

“In the hero stories, the call to go on a journey takes the form of a loss, an error, a wound, an unexplainable longing, or a sense of a mission. When any of these happens to us, we are being summoned to make a transition. It will always mean leaving something behind,…The paradox here is that loss is a path to gain.”
― David RichoHow to Be an Adult: A Handbook on Psychological and Spiritual Integration

Tomorrow night, i will be grateful for Sir.

i will have been grateful for Him all along.  His strength and support.  His assistance when needed, without fuss or frowns.  So grateful for that all along.  But tomorrow night ~

i think He has plans for me.

hugs…my heart has sad for your sorrow. If I could lighten your burden…but no. It is yours, your right, your path…on the way to new discoveries for you as well as your daughter and her family.

The wheel turns, but sometimes? It weighs heavy on us.

I’m so very glad you Sir will be there to…love, to hold, to remind you that even with this leavetaking, another path awaits you…with Him.
